Help & Support

Common questions,
answered plainly.

What is FerrySwap?

FerrySwap is a browser-based interface to Serai, a cross-chain decentralized exchange that swaps between Bitcoin, Ethereum, DAI and Monero. Serai's validator set generates keys collectively and settles each leg of a swap on that coin's own chain, so you trade native assets rather than tokenised stand-ins. FerrySwap is only the front end: it never takes custody of your funds and cannot move them.

How is FerrySwap different from other DEXs?

Most decentralised exchanges live on a single chain, so anything that didn't start there arrives as a wrapped token issued by a bridge, and that bridge becomes something you have to trust. Serai connects to each chain directly, which is what makes native Monero possible; Monero has no smart contracts and cannot be wrapped in the usual way.

How can I swap Monero?

Choose XMR on either side of the swap and connect a wallet that holds the asset you're selling. Monero is a first-class asset on Serai rather than a wrapped representation, so the XMR leg is an ordinary Monero transaction to an address you control, with ring signatures and stealth addresses working exactly as they normally do.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There is no signup, no email, no password and no KYC. Your wallet is the only identity involved, and FerrySwap stores no balances, no history and no profile for you.

How is privacy handled on FerrySwap?

FerrySwap is a static interface: it runs no accounts and keeps no server-side log of wallet addresses. Be aware of what on-chain settlement does and doesn't hide. Bitcoin and Ethereum legs are publicly visible like any other transaction on those chains, while Monero legs retain Monero's own privacy properties. Price and network data are requested from third-party endpoints, which can see your IP address; a VPN or Tor is worth considering if that matters to you.
